What is Person Centred Therapy
Updated: Dec 20, 2018
There are a number of theories and techniques used by different counsellors, Person Centred Therapy is a therapeutic approach used by many counsellors. The central belief of Person Centred Therapy is that everyone has the ability to grow and develop naturally, although our personal growth is limited by the demands and expectations of others which causes psychological discomfort. Removing these demands and expectations enables people to grow and resolve psychological discomfort.
During the counselling session you will challenge the demands and expectations that you have on yourself, and which others have on you. This is done by the therapist understanding your feelings and emotions, fully accepting them without judgement. As a result you will begin to understand and accept who you are which puts you in a stronger position to deal with life's challenges.
